Bob Mortimer has opened up about the emotional moment he broke down on television while discussing his long-time comedy partner Vic Reeves. The pair, who have been performing together for 30 years, are celebrating their 25th anniversary as a double act with a new live show titled 'The Poignant Moments'. In a recent interview, Mortimer reflected on their enduring friendship and the challenges they have faced.
Mortimer, 63, revealed that the breakdown occurred during a TV appearance when he was asked about the possibility of losing Reeves. 'I just couldn't hold it together,' he said. 'We've been through so much together, and the thought of not having him there was too much.' The moment highlighted the deep bond between the comedians, who have maintained a close friendship and working relationship for decades.
The duo's latest show, 'The Poignant Moments', is a retrospective of their career, featuring classic sketches from 'Big Night Out', 'Shooting Stars', and other series. The tour was postponed last year after Mortimer underwent an emergency triple heart bypass operation. He married his long-term partner Lisa Matthews on the morning of the surgery, fearing he might not survive.
Despite the health scare, Mortimer has recovered well and the tour has been a success. Reeves noted that the exercise from performing has been beneficial for Mortimer's recovery. 'He's come back stronger than ever,' Reeves said. The pair continue to write together daily, maintaining the creative partnership that has made them one of Britain's most beloved comedy duos.
