Ben Boulos Joins CNBC After BBC Breakfast Exit

Former BBC Breakfast Presenter Ben Boulos Secures Major CNBC Role

Ben Boulos, the former BBC Breakfast presenter who bid an emotional farewell to the programme earlier this month, has announced a significant new career move. The broadcaster has confirmed he will be joining CNBC International as an anchor on their flagship morning business programme, Squawk Box Europe.

Emotional Departure from BBC Breakfast

Boulos shared his final moments on the iconic red sofa in January, telling viewers: "Just before we finish, just to share a bit of news about me. It's my last appearance on Breakfast for the time being, I am off to take a new job elsewhere." He became visibly emotional, adding: "I will miss this place, I will miss this programme a lot. I have had the most wonderful time on Breakfast."

The presenter extended heartfelt thanks to production teams and home audiences, stating: "It has been a real pleasure and a privilege." His departure marked the end of a 16-year tenure with the BBC, during which he appeared on numerous programmes including Business Live, Talking Business, and BBC World News.

Exciting New Chapter at CNBC International

Taking to Instagram to reveal his next move, Boulos announced: "Here it is... Very excited that I can now share news about my new job with you all - and delighted to be joining the brilliant team @cnbcinternational @cnbc in London where I'll be an anchor on #SquawkBoxEurope alongside Karen & Steve, 5 mornings a week."

He will be joining co-anchors Karen Tso and Steve Sedgwick from early February, filling in for Julianna Tatelbaum who is beginning maternity leave. According to an official press release, the trio will "cover the most important market-moving and complex stories of the day."

Industry Recognition and Fan Support

Leonie Kidd, Head of TV News for Europe, Middle East and Africa at CNBC, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment: "I am delighted that Ben is joining the CNBC International team. His specialist knowledge of global business and economics, combined with years of experience presenting to audiences across the UK and worldwide, will be an incredible asset."

She particularly highlighted Boulos's ability to "make complex financial stories clear and engaging," noting this aligns perfectly with CNBC's mission to expand coverage and connect with broader audiences.

The announcement was met with overwhelming support from followers and fans. One well-wisher commented: "Wishing you the very best in this new chapter!" while another noted: "Congratulations! This is very exciting news! Good luck on the new adventure. Least you are used to those morning alarms!"

Reflecting on Sixteen BBC Years

In earlier social media posts teasing his departure, Boulos reflected on his extensive BBC career: "After 16 years of working at the BBC I will be leaving at the end of this week. I've had the most wonderful decade and a half here, working with many brilliant people."

He traced his journey from local BBC stations in Chelmsford through various national and international roles, culminating in his recent position at BBC Breakfast's Salford studios. Boulos explained his decision: "However, it is time for a change, a new challenge, a new year. I'm leaving to go and take up a very exciting opportunity elsewhere."

While initially keeping details private, he confirmed he would remain in television broadcasting, captioning one announcement: "New year, new start, new challenge. A big change for me in 2026 and exciting times ahead!"

BBC Breakfast continues to air daily from 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, while viewers can soon catch Ben Boulos on CNBC International's morning business coverage from London.
