Television favourites Alan Carr and Amanda Holden have gifted viewers an early Christmas present, securing a brand new festive special for BBC One. The dynamic duo, known for their hit renovation series, will be trading power tools for festive treats in Amanda and Alan’s Spanish Christmas.
A Festive Return to Moclín
The hour-long special will see the pair return to the sun-drenched Spanish village of Moclín in the south of the country. This is the very location where they successfully renovated a bed and breakfast during the third series of their show, Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job. That series, which aired earlier this year and was filmed in 2024, proved to be a ratings success, pulling in an impressive two million viewers.
This festive instalment will follow Alan and Amanda as they dive headfirst into Spanish Christmas traditions. Viewers can expect to see them baking seasonal treats and sampling traditional delicacies. The grand finale will be a heartfelt festive party, thrown by the celebrities as a thank you to the local community who supported them during their renovation project.
From Renovations to Celebrations
The special arrives at a perfect time for Alan Carr, who is fresh from his victory on the popular show The Celebrity Traitors. It should be noted, however, that the Christmas special was pre-recorded long before the Claudia Winkleman-fronted series aired on television.
The pair have consistently surprised audiences with their willingness to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into manual labour, a far cry from their usual showbiz personas. Their renovation journey began in January 2023 with a flat in Sicily, followed by a project in Tuscany for their second series. Fans won't have to wait long for more, as a fourth series, set in Greece, is scheduled to start in January.
A Star-Studded BBC Christmas Lineup
This special is part of a bumper package of festive programming unveiled by the BBC. Other highlights for the Christmas season include:
- The first festive outings for shows Amandaland and Here We Go.
- A new adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s book The Scarecrow’s Wedding.
- Dame Helen Mirren appearing on The Repair Shop.
- Anton du Beke joining Sewing Bee as a guest, alongside comedian Lucy Beaumont.
- Dawn French featuring in the Christmas edition of Gone Fishing with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse.
While Amanda Holden has expressed a desire to take their renovation exploits to Japan in the future, her commitment to her Heart Radio breakfast show currently makes such a long-distance project unfeasible. For now, audiences can look forward to a very Spanish Christmas with this much-loved television pairing.
