Big Brother host AJ Odudu has hit back at what she describes as 'disrespectful' social media trolls who targeted her appearance during the show's live launch. The popular presenter addressed the negative comments head-on during an appearance on ITV's Lorraine.
'I'm not going to apologise for looking glamorous,' stated Odudu firmly. The criticism emerged after viewers saw the presenter's dramatic wardrobe change between the main show and the accompanying live stream, with some accusing her of vanity.
A Matter of Professionalism
Odudu explained the practical reality of television production. 'We film the main show, and then we go straight into 'Big Brother: Late & Live',' she told Lorraine Kelly. 'Of course I'm going to change my outfit - it's a completely different show!'
The presenter emphasised that maintaining a polished appearance is part of her job description. 'I'm hosting a prime-time television show on ITV,' she remarked. 'What do you expect me to do? Look scruffy?'
Support from Co-host and Viewers
Odudu's co-host, Will Best, also changed his outfit between segments, though he didn't face the same level of scrutiny. The disproportionate criticism towards Odudu highlights what many see as a double standard for female presenters.
Since addressing the issue, Odudu has received overwhelming support from fans and colleagues alike. Social media has been flooded with messages praising her professionalism and style, with many calling the trolls' comments unfounded and sexist.
The incident serves as another example of the challenges women in television face regarding their appearance, even when celebrating career highs like hosting one of British television's most anticipated returns.
