The stars of the highly anticipated drama A Thousand Blows descended upon London's Curzon Mayfair cinema on Monday for the glittering world premiere of its second season. Leading the red carpet charge was Erin Doherty, who captivated onlookers with a striking and dramatic ensemble.
A Night of Dramatic Fashion
Erin Doherty, famed for her role in The Crown, made a powerful style statement for the premiere. The 32-year-old actress wore a sophisticated black boat neck dress that fell to her knees. The look was transformed into something truly theatrical by an intricate black lace mask covering her face, which elegantly extended down the dress to form a flowing cape at the back.
She completed the striking outfit with thick tights, open-toed black leather heels, and her hair styled in a sleek bun. Doherty portrays Mary Carr, the formidable leader of the notorious all-female gang, The Forty Elephants, in the Steven Knight-created series.
Cast Style on the Red Carpet
Doherty was joined by her co-stars, who each brought their own flair to the event. Malachi Kirby, the 34-year-old BAFTA award-winner who plays Hezekiah Moscow, looked dapper in a navy suit featuring a black satin collar, which he paired with a black turtleneck and patent brogues.
Jemma Carlton, who plays Belle Downer, opted for a dark green tweed dress with a wrap coat design and a leg split, accessorised with a silver brooch and burgundy knee-high boots. Darci Shaw (Alice Diamond) chose a minimalist combination of a black roll-neck sweater and a buttoned mini-skirt, while Caoilfhionn Dunne brought a casual chic vibe in a navy tee, black trench coat, wide-leg trousers, and white Converse trainers.
Also in attendance was Daniel Mays, who wore a short double-breasted black coat with tailored trousers and an open-neck white shirt.
What to Expect in Season 2
The new season continues the gritty saga set in the perilous world of 1880s Victorian London illegal boxing. The official synopsis sets the scene: Hezekiah is a shadow of his former self, while boxer Sugar Goodson is estranged from his family and drowning in drink. Into this fractured landscape returns Mary Carr with her loyal second, Alice Diamond.
Mary aims to reassemble the Forty Elephants gang and reclaim her crown, forming a reluctant alliance with Hezekiah to take down their common enemy, Indigo Jeremy. The promise is a plan riskier than anything attempted before.
The series, created by Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight and directed by Top Boy's Ashley Walters, has already garnered a passionate fanbase. Following the premiere of the first season on Disney+ in February, viewers took to social media to praise it as "absolutely outstanding" and "right up there with Peaky Blinders," with many expressing excitement for the continuation of the story.
