The future of one of the best shows this year has been confirmed. All episodes of Widow's Bay are finally available for streaming. Instalments of Apple TV+'s horror comedy show have been dropping on a weekly basis. Its dramatic and incredible tense finale landed this week. This means viewers can finally binge watch the entire 10-part series in one go if they wish. Even better for dedicated fans is that the future of the show has already been confirmed.
Is there a Season 2 of Widow's Bay?
Just as fans witnessed one of the show's biggest twists leading up to the finale, Apple confirmed its future. After being hailed as “the year’s best new show,” “the show of the summer,” “one of the brightest surprises on streaming right now,” “unlike anything on TV” and a “perfectly executed,” “absolute gem of a TV show” a second season has been greenlit.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV confirmed the news saying they can't wait for its return. He added: “From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laugh and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew and the entire team have created.”
Unfortunately, there's no hint at when fans can expect the show to return. Looking at Apple's other offerings doesn't leave too many clues either. Ted Lasso had a short gap of one year between Season 1 and 2 but then faced a two year wait for Season 3. Meanwhile, fans are still waiting for new seasons of Bad Monkey, which began in 2024 as well as Murderbot and The Studio which both debuted in 2025.
What has been said about the future of the show?
Hiro Murai who directed five episodes of Widow's Bay, including its finale has explained how the first series can be seen as both one story as well as an introduction into something more. He told Polygon: "I've always thought about this show as a story about Tom's relationship to the town. The throughline for the whole season is Tom accepting that this place is what it is... really the arc is whether Tom can accept the reality of this place, and if he's willing to do what it takes to sort of protect it."
Murai admitted that he has tried to 'not bother' creator Katie Dippold about the upcoming second season but suggests she is thinking of different ways to expand the Widow's Bay universe. He adds that the table has been 'reset' and "there's a lot to play with."
Dippold herself has not given too much away. She shared a cryptic message as she said: “Season 2 is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about.” Although fans know that is not quite true.
Widow's Bay is streaming on Apple TV+.
