The Princess of Wales brought smiles and festive cheer to the Irish Guards' annual St Patrick's Day celebrations at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, Hampshire. Kate arrived wearing a distinctive bottle green coat, adorned with an Irish Guards cap star that held special historical significance. The princess formally wished officers and guardsmen a happy St Patrick's Day while distributing the traditional shamrock symbols.
The regiment's mascot, an Irish wolfhound named Turlough Mor (affectionately called Seamus), also received royal attention during the proceedings. Drummer Joseph G.S. Aldridge, who handles Seamus, noted that Kate "always loves" greeting the dog and specifically inquired about his health and wellbeing during their interaction.

Following the parade, which concluded with three cheers for the princess who took the royal salute, Kate presented good conduct and long-service medals to three soldiers before meeting their families in the officers' mess. Kate met Lance Sergeant Mills, who led the drums and pipes during the parade, along with his wife Jessica and their three-year-old daughter Vienna. The little girl jumped with excitement as the princess crouched down to greet her. "Are you excited?" Kate asked Vienna before complimenting her "beautiful hair" and applauding when the child twirled in her blue dress.
The princess offered her hands to Vienna, who took them before swinging toward the floor. Kate laughed warmly as she pulled the delighted child back to her feet. I wasn't actually expecting that. It's my first time getting to come to the parade, so it was really lovely."
Drummer Aldridge reflected on the significance of royal patronage: "Every regiment of the guards has their own member of the royal family, and they have their own traditions with the royal family, so it's a really nice day for her to come out and celebrate St Patrick's Day with us." He described it as a "privilege" to have the Princess of Wales as the regiment's colonel.
