MAFS Groom Tyson Gordon's Shocking Admission of Food Theft

Married At First Sight's Tyson Gordon, known for his 'anti-woke' persona and controversial stint on the reality show, has revealed a starkly different side of his life story during a candid podcast interview this week.

From Privileged Childhood to Desperate Measures

The 30-year-old reality star appeared on the Dangerous Ideas With Deano podcast, hosted by MAFS alumni Dean Wells and Harrison Boon, where he made the startling confession about his past struggles.

'We lived in a multimillion-dollar house – I was a rich kid growing up,' Tyson began, describing his privileged upbringing. 'You don't know what you've got until it's gone.'

Despite this comfortable start, Tyson's life took a dramatic turn following his parents' divorce. He explained that he and his sister moved in with their father, but the family's financial situation deteriorated rapidly.

The Descent into Poverty

'I was living with my dad but, after the divorce, he lost almost everything,' Tyson revealed. 'We were living in this real s***ty place in Southport – he was going through a real tough time, but he was always there to support us.'

The situation became particularly dire after Tyson was expelled from school for fighting, leaving him directionless and struggling to make ends meet while working a 'dead end' security guard job.

'I didn't know what I was doing with my life,' he admitted. 'I got kicked out of school... it got bad I even had to go to Woolies and sometimes steal food, because I couldn't afford to live.'

Podcast Hosts' Shocked Reaction

Dean Wells expressed disbelief at Tyson's revelation, responding: 'You went from a rich kid living in a mansion to having to steal s*** from Woolies to survive?'

Tyson confirmed the claim without elaborating extensively, stating simply that it was something that 'had to be done' during that difficult period of his life.

'This was a long time ago but it had to be done,' he explained. 'I was trying to figure myself out. I was still a kid – 17 at the time. My dad was there to support me.'

Specifics of the Food Theft

When pressed by co-host Harrison Boon about what items he typically took, Tyson responded with surprising specificity and a touch of humor.

'Chicken breast,' he revealed with a grin, explaining his reasoning when Harrison questioned why he wouldn't choose something pre-prepared: 'If I'm going to do it, do it properly – get some good quality protein.'

Context of Tyson's MAFS Departure

This revealing interview comes shortly after Tyson's dramatic exit from Married At First Sight during Sunday's Commitment Ceremony. His departure followed wife Stephanie Marshall expressing concerns about his views on gay couples, particularly given that two of her closest friends are gay.

The podcast appearance provides significant context to Tyson's background, showing a complex personal history that contrasts sharply with the controversial persona he displayed on the reality television program.
