The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, are expected to travel to the UK within weeks for a major event ahead of the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. An insider revealed that Prince Harry feels 'great sadness' over the disconnect with his home country.
First Family Visit Since 2022
While Harry has returned to the UK multiple times since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, this trip will mark Meghan's first visit to England since the late Queen's funeral in 2022. The family will attend an event marking the one-year countdown to the Birmingham Games.
An insider told news.com.au: 'It's been a real point of great sadness – for Harry especially – that he's been unable to bring his wife and kids back to the UK safely to reconnect with friends and family, but anyone would understand his desire to put their safety first.'
Security Concerns Addressed
Harry has long cited security concerns as a major hurdle for bringing his family to the UK. In May 2025, he lost an appeal to reinstate taxpayer-funded security, but a subsequent Home Office review may have led to arrangements for this visit. The insider confirmed that protections have been put in place.
Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, last visited the UK in 2022 for the Platinum Jubilee. It is believed that was the only time King Charles met his granddaughter. It remains unclear whether the Sussexes will reunite with the Royal Family during this trip.
Harry last saw his father in September 2025 during a private tea at Clarence House. The Duke has previously stated he couldn't see a world where he would bring his family back, but now conditions appear to have been met.
The Mirror has contacted representatives for the Sussexes, Invictus Games, and Buckingham Palace for comment.
