Cher Files for Court Intervention Over Son's Deteriorating Situation
Music icon Cher has formally requested a court to appoint a temporary conservator for her son, Elijah Blue Allman, following a series of escalating crises involving drugs, finances, and legal issues. In documents obtained by the Daily Mail, the 79-year-old singer detailed her son's severe decline, stating his life has significantly deteriorated since she first sought conservatorship in 2023.
Alarming Incidents and Health Scares
Cher revealed a disturbing incident where Allman, 49, was found unconscious behind the wheel of his car, causing a traffic jam. He was hospitalized and required Narcan to save his life. This follows a drug overdose in June 2025, when deputies responded to a call in Landers, California, finding Allman acting erratically with drugs in his home. He has a long history of substance abuse, having started using drugs like weed and ecstasy at age 11, and previously described heroin as something that saved him during dark times.
Financial and Legal Troubles Mount
The court filings highlight Allman's dire financial state. Cher claims he has no concept of money and is vulnerable to fraud, owing $18,000 to a drug dealer and facing a $200,000 tax bill. Additionally, he has accumulated debts from damaging Airbnbs, including a $50,000 claim from one stay where he trashed the property. Allman has been banned from 18 hotels for disruptive behavior, such as screaming obscenities and allegedly cornering a maid to aggressively propose sexual relations.
Legal issues compound his troubles, with multiple arrests in New Hampshire for charges including felony burglary, assault, and breach of bail. In February, he was arrested after causing a disturbance at a prep school, acting belligerently in the dining hall without any known ties to the institution.
Cher's Legal Battle and Request for Conservatorship
Cher is asking the court to appoint Jason Rubin as temporary conservator of Allman's estate, emphasizing that his mental health has severely deteriorated and his drug dependency is at its worst. She wants oversight to address his issues one problem at a time. This comes after a judge rejected her initial bid in early 2024 to become his conservator, citing procedural issues like insufficient notice and lack of information sharing.
Allman currently receives $120,000 annually from a trust fund set up by his late father, Gregg Allman, but Cher fears he spends the $10,000 monthly payouts on drugs, endangering his life. He is presently in a psychiatric hospital, with Cher seeking legal protection for him. Representatives for Cher and Allman have been contacted for comment, but no response has been provided yet.
In addition to Elijah, Cher is mother to 57-year-old Chaz Bono, her child with late musician Sonny Bono. The situation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the family amid Allman's struggles with addiction and instability.
