Royal Mail Unveils Lord of the Rings Stamps with Hidden UV Message for Fans
Royal Mail has launched a new set of 12 commemorative stamps to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. This special collection includes eight stamps showcasing iconic characters from the film trilogy and four additional stamps in a miniature sheet dedicated to legendary locations from Middle-earth.
Stamps Feature Iconic Characters and Hidden Elvish Writing
The main set of eight stamps presents a montage from the epic film series, highlighting beloved characters portrayed by British actors. These include Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Dominic Monaghan as Merry, Billy Boyd as Pippin, and Christopher Lee as Saruman. A unique feature of these stamps is a hidden message that becomes visible only when exposed to UV light, revealing Elvish writing arranged in a ring shape, adding an interactive element for enthusiasts.

Miniature Sheet Honors Four Legendary Locations
A further four stamps, presented in a miniature sheet, pay tribute to four iconic settings from the saga. These locations span from The Shire, where Frodo Baggins begins his quest, to Mount Doom, the fiery destination where the One Ring must be destroyed. Also featured are Rivendell, an Elven sanctuary, and the monumental Argonath, which marks the northern border of Gondor.

Background and Availability of the Stamps
Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's revered novels The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, the film series directed by Peter Jackson has captivated generations, grossing $6 billion globally and winning 17 Academy Awards, making it the most awarded series in cinematic history. Set in Middle-earth, the story follows Frodo Baggins on a perilous mission to destroy the One Ring.
The stamps and a range of collectible products are available for pre-order from March 11 via Royal Mail's website. A Presentation Pack containing all 12 stamps is priced at £21.30, with general sales commencing on March 20.
