Paddington Bear Records Iconic Album at Abbey Road Studios
Fans of the beloved Paddington Bear are in for a delightful surprise as the iconic British character prepares to release an album featuring the West End cast of his musical. The recording took place at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, where Paddington recreated The Beatles' famous zebra crossing photo from their 1969 album, dressed in his signature red hat and blue duffle coat.
Album Details and Release Schedule
Decca Records has announced that Paddington The Musical - Original Cast Recording will be released earlier than planned, dropping on April 10. The album was recorded with a full orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, featuring vocals from the complete West End cast. It is arranged, orchestrated, and produced by Matt Brind, with music and lyrics by Tom Fletcher. A physical release, including vinyl, CD, and Yoto formats, is scheduled for May 22, 2026.
Paddington's West End Success and BAFTA Appearance
Paddington Bear made his West End debut in his own musical after 29 books and three film appearances. The show is currently running at the Savoy Theatre until May 30, 2027. In February 2026, Paddington stole the spotlight at the EE BAFTA Awards, charming a star-studded crowd that included Emma Stone, Kate Hudson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Timothee Chalamet. He presented the Children's & Family Film award, delivering a humorous speech that referenced his Aunt Lucy and the Browns, and even joked about getting marmalade on a BAFTA trophy.
Viewers took to social media to praise the wholesome and charming moment, with comments like "Paddington Bear steals the spotlight at the #EEBAFTAs" and "peak British charm." The bear is played by performer Arti Shah in costume, with James Hameed providing the voice and remote-controlling facial expressions.
Critical Acclaim for the Musical
Paddington: The Musical has received glowing reviews since its official opening in December. Directed by Luke Sheppard, the show follows Paddington's comic mishaps with the adoptive Brown family after he arrives in London from Peru. The Daily Mail's Patrick Marmion awarded it five stars, praising its "off-the-scale cuteness." The musical continues to delight families at the Savoy Theatre, solidifying Paddington's status as a cultural icon.
