Channel 5 viewers have been left wanting more after the conclusion of a three-part birdwatching series fronted by an All Creatures Great and Small star. The show, titled Sam & Ade Go Birding, features Samuel West as himself alongside his close friend Adrian Edmondson.
A Journey Through Britain's Nature Reserves
The popular duo journey through some of Britain's most breathtaking nature reserves, embarking on a captivating birdwatching adventure together. Audiences watched the pair head to West Cornwall in pursuit of Cornish choughs, waders, and transatlantic visitors blown hundreds of miles off course; to North Norfolk on a wild goose chase for brent and pink-footed geese; and finally to the Somerset Levels, where they stake out kingfishers, egrets, and the elusive bittern.
The synopsis reads: "Featuring exquisite photography and breathtaking landscapes, the series is as much about friendship as it is about wildlife. Between sightings, Sam and Ade share thoughtful, funny, and moving conversations on everything from obsession and ageing to acting, childhood memories, losing a parent, and the geeky hobbies that have captivated them over the years."
A Lifelong Passion for Samuel
For Samuel, birdwatching is a lifelong passion. He has logged his sightings for 20 years and has now spotted over 400 British species, with an ever-growing enthusiasm to add more to his tally. Samuel previously revealed: "Watching birds is a simple pleasure. At heart, it's an invitation to connect with the natural world. All you need is a desire to look, listen, and enjoy. A pair of binoculars helps; a friend to share it with makes it even better (especially when they're as much fun as Adrian Edmondson). I'm thrilled that we get to invite the 5 audience along with us on our travels; they've already proved how tasteful and clever they are by liking All Creatures Great and Small so much. Welcome to the gentle art of noticing."
New Territory for Adrian
For Adrian, however, the pastime represents fresh territory. Having lived in the countryside for over two decades without acquiring much bird knowledge, he explained: "I don't know how I got to be this old without knowing more about birds. It feels like a huge hole in my education. Sam is going to fill me in. And... we get to go to the pub!"
Fans Call for Second Series
The series has now concluded, but audiences are calling for a second season. After the BBC posted a clip online, one enthusiastic viewer declared: "Absolutely enjoyed this watch a few weeks ago, more episodes please." Another urged: "Lots more series please, it's brilliant." A third appealed: "Please renew this gem asap." Someone else gushed: "What a lovely show. Please do more." Meanwhile, another hopeful fan added: "Here's hoping for a second series."
Season one of Sam & Ade Go Birding is available to stream on Channel 5.
