Acclaimed actress Gillian Anderson has surprised fans by stepping into a novel position away from the camera. The star, renowned for her roles in The Crown and The X-Files, has been appointed as the first-ever Chief Compliment Officer for British retailer Marks & Spencer.

Campaign Launch and Research Insights

The initiative commences on March 10th, with official announcements across social media platforms including LinkedIn and Instagram. This will be followed by the Spring 2026 collection launch on March 11th, featuring Anderson complimenting women wearing M&S designs in a new advertisement set to Yello's track Oh Yeah.

This campaign builds upon research revealing that 62% of individuals experience immediate happiness upon receiving compliments. However, the study also uncovered that 8% of people never receive compliments at all, highlighting the need for greater kindness in daily interactions.

Personal Reflections on Ageing and Authenticity

Anderson recently shared insights about her personal journey during L'Oreal's Lessons of Worth series for International Women's Day. "At 57, I have never felt more alive in my skin, clear-headed, purposeful, and free of self-judgment," she revealed.

Reflecting on the ageing process, Anderson encouraged others to "embrace it, admire it, celebrate it, respect it." She added, "The fact is I have never felt better. I feel like I have gained perspective, confidence, wisdom, and definitely the desire to express myself authentically."
