An author has taken a unique approach to sharing their work by leaving copies of their own novel at train stations and other locations across the UK. The writer, who shared their experience on Reddit, loaded a suitcase with books and distributed them randomly during a vacation.
How It Started
The author began their journey in Scotland, giving a copy to a woman at a train station. They then left more copies on a hotel bookshelf in Inverness, gave one to a cab driver in London, and strategically placed books in pubs, bookshops, and train stations in Canterbury. One copy even ended up with a tour guide at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland.
A Proud Moment
The author described a particularly memorable moment: watching the tour guide read the book on a bus. 'He's witnessing the journey I wrote in real time, in front of me,' they wrote. 'Proud, kind of scary.'
Community Reaction
Reddit users praised the initiative, with one commenting, 'F****** love this - reminds me of when book crossing was a thing.' Another said, 'Thank you for your actions. I hope it gives some folk pleasure.' The post even generated interest from a collector wanting a signed edition.
In total, the author distributed 16 books, noting, 'Not a huge number, but maybe one or two of those books will find their calling.'
