David Morrissey, star of Tip Toe, has already lined up his next project with Channel 4, a gripping true drama titled The Siege. The actor, known for his role in The Walking Dead, will be joined by Danny Dyer, famous for EastEnders and Rivals, in this six-part thriller based on real events.
What is The Siege About?
The Siege is adapted from Ben Macintyre's book of the same name and recounts the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege in London. The standoff began when six armed Arab Iranian separatists demanded autonomy and took 26 hostages. The official synopsis states: 'During six days of tension, gunmen, hostages and police battled for control as SAS soldiers prepared a rescue mission.'
Cast and Characters
David Morrissey plays Deputy Assistant Commissioner John Dellow of Scotland Yard, who oversaw the initial response and negotiations. Danny Dyer portrays PC Trevor Lock, the only armed officer on duty during the attack. Lock managed to hide his service revolver throughout the hostage crisis and played a key role when the SAS launched their rescue. Other cast members include Mark Bonnar (Line of Duty), Alex Jennings (The Crown), Omid Djalili (Betrayal), and Sean Pertwee (Gotham).
Production Team
The series is written by Will Smith, a three-time Emmy and WGA award-winning writer known for Slow Horses and Veep. Production is already underway, with the series expected to air later this year or in early 2027.
What the Experts Say
Channel 4's chief content officer Ian Katz described the show as 'a heartstopping, emotional thriller that reveals the little-known motivations of the hapless hostage-takers and the very human reality of what went on inside the embassy.' He added that it 'will change the way people understand the siege and reveal how close the famous SAS operation came to disaster.'
Tip Toe is currently available to watch on Channel 4.
