Prisoner Star Izuka Hoyle on Falling in Love with Wales

The new Sky crime thriller Prisoner has landed this week, delivering a gripping narrative filled with unexpected twists and turns. The series centres on prison transport officer Amber Todd, portrayed by Izuka Hoyle, who returns to work after maternity leave only to find herself handcuffed and on the run alongside assassin and mafia informant Tibor Stone, played by Tahar Rahim. The chaos erupts when their convoy is ambushed by Stone's former employers, desperate to silence him before he can testify against them.

Cast Appear on The One Show

On Thursday's episode of The One Show (April 30), actors Eddie Marsan, Izuka Hoyle, and Tahar Rahim joined hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp to discuss the series. Filmed in Wales, the show drew particular praise from Hoyle, who shared her deep affection for the location.

Roman Kemp asked Hoyle if she felt at home shooting in and around Cardiff. She replied: "I absolutely fell in love with Cardiff and Wales. I'm back and forth all the time now. I spend a lot of time in North Wales, in Snowdonia. I picked up my bike, I moved to Wales and from the moment I took a breath when I got off the train, it was like the deepest breath I'd taken in a long time. It's not Scotland, it's different, but the Celtic energy is in the soil, and it just felt like home."

She added: "The green, the Celtic tug, the mother tongue, hearing the Welsh crew speaking Welsh whilst we were filming was the most grounding and beautiful thing that I'd experienced."

The cast also includes Back To Black's Eddie Marsan, 28 Weeks Later's Catherine McCormack, and Leonie Benesch from September 5 and Babylon Berlin. Finn Bennett and Black Doves' Sam Troughton appear alongside Laurie Davidson from The Girlfriend and Mary and George. The Bute Tunnel was used as a key filming location for a pivotal scene.

The official synopsis reads: "When their convoy is brutally ambushed, she's forced to put her life in his hands.
