Lauren Holly, 62, Stars in New Movie Broad Trip

Lauren Holly, a prominent Hollywood actress from the 1990s, is making a return to the screen in the new movie Broad Trip, which premieres on May 8 on The Roku Channel. Now 62, Holly first gained fame as Deputy Sheriff Maxine Stewart on the television series Picket Fences.

Early Career and Breakthrough

Born in Pennsylvania, Holly attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York. She began her acting career at age 20, appearing as Carla Walicki in two episodes of Hill Street Blues and later in Spenser: For Hire. At 23, she joined the soap opera All My Children as Julie Rand Chandler, a role she played from 1986 to 1989. In 1990, she portrayed Betty Cooper in the TV movie Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again.

Her big break came in 1992 when she was cast as Deputy Sheriff Maxine Stewart on CBS's Picket Fences, starring alongside Tom Skerritt for four seasons.

Film Success in the 1990s

Holly starred in the 1993 biopic Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story as Bruce Lee's wife, Linda Lee. The following year, she played Mary Swanson in the comedy hit Dumb and Dumber, where she met and fell in love with co-star Jim Carrey. They married in September 1996 but divorced in July 1997.

She also appeared in Beautiful Girls (1996) as Darian Smalls, and in Sydney Pollack's 1995 remake of Sabrina with Harrison Ford. In 1996, she starred in Down Periscope with Kelsey Grammer, and in 1997's Turbulence with Ray Liotta. She played the wife of the Sharks quarterback in Any Given Sunday (1999), and Gigi in What Women Want (2000).

Television and Later Work

From 2005 to 2008, Holly was a cast member of NCIS as Director Jenny Shepard. She later played Dr. Betty Rogers on Motive. In 2014, she starred in Field of Lost Shoes and appeared in The Blackcoat's Daughter. In 2018, she appeared on the third season of Designated Survivor.

Personal Life

Holly has been married three times. Her first marriage was to actor Danny Quinn from 1991 to 1993. She then married Jim Carrey in 1996, divorcing in 1997. In 2001, she married investment banker Francis Greco, with whom she adopted three sons: Henry, George, and Alexander Holly-Greco. The couple divorced in 2014. Holly now lives in Ontario with her children but travels frequently for work.

Her new movie Broad Trip, co-starring Sophia Bush, debuts on May 8 on The Roku Channel.
