Zoe Ball Confirms Relationship with BAFTA-Winning Production Designer

Zoe Ball has officially confirmed the identity of her new boyfriend, ending months of speculation and playful hints about her personal life. The former BBC Radio 2 presenter, 55, was photographed enjoying a coastal stroll near Brighton with BAFTA-winning production designer Mathieu Weekes, 49, marking their first public appearance together.

From 'Lodger' to Confirmed Partner

For several months, Ball had referred to Weekes as "The Lodger" on her Dig It podcast, which she co-hosts with friend Jo Whiley. The radio host has now set the record straight, admitting that the live-in man is indeed her boyfriend. The couple were seen looking comfortable together during their seaside walk, with Ball wearing a beanie hat and animal-print scarf while Weekes sported blue jeans and a hooded coat.

Career Connections and Personal History

Mathieu Weekes is an award-winning production designer who has worked on popular television series including The Traitors and I'm A Celebrity.... The pair reportedly met while Weekes was designing the set for the talent show Mamma Mia! – I Have a Dream in 2023, when Ball was presenting the series in Greece.

Ball's relationship with Weekes follows her split from Michael Reed in 2023. Previously, she was married to musician Norman Cook, known as Fatboy Slim, for 18 years before their separation a decade ago. The couple share two children, Woody and Nelly.

Personal Revelations and Mental Health Advocacy

During a recent podcast episode, Ball offered intimate insights into her relationship, revealing her appreciation for her partner's natural scent. "I've often had this thing, when I've been sort of dating someone, I love smelling their armpits," she shared. "I know it sounds weird, but if you love someone, you've got to love all their smells."

The radio presenter has also been open about her experience with loss and mental health advocacy. Ball previously dated cameraman Billy Yates, who died by suicide in May 2017 after battling depression. Speaking about this tragedy, she highlighted the importance of mental health awareness, noting that "one in four of us in the UK are living with mental illness."

Career Transition and Future Plans

Ball left her position as a BBC Radio 2 presenter late last year, bidding farewell to listeners on December 20 before handing over her show to Emma Willis. In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, she reflected on how personal losses have reshaped her perspective on life, asking herself "what's important here?" as she moves forward with both her career and personal life.
