Donald Trump has walked out of a TV interview after being questioned over claims that a California election was rigged. The US President was on NBC's Meet the Press when interviewer Kirsten Welker asked him for evidence that the results were rigged.
He told her: 'We're like a third world country. Your elections are crooked and you're crooked, and Meet the Press is crooked and so is ABC and CBS and CNN.' Taking off his microphone and speaking over Ms Welker he said: 'Let's call it quits. I've had enough. Thank you, darling, have a good time.'
Ms Welker asked him to stay, saying she had travelled 'all the way to Wisconsin' for the sit-down interview. Trump hit back: 'I've sat in the rain with you for an hour. I've given you enough time. You ought to straighten out your press.' He then walked off, leaving Ms Welker looking stunned in a barn with tractors in the background.
Prior to leaving, Trump made further unverified claims that major parts of the Iranian military had 'gone' during the conflict. He said: 'In three months, I've demolished the navy, the air force, anti-aircraft. They have no radar. They have nothing.' NBC analysis found half of Iran's unconventional navy remains intact.
Ms Welker also pressed him on his 2024 promise not to send Americans 'to fight and die in stupid foreign wars that never end.' He responded: 'I didn't guarantee no war. Why would I have built the strongest military in the world? I built our military.'
Polling suggests Trump's approval rating has fallen to -25 points, making him the most unpopular US president since the tracker began in 2009. Only 35% approve of his performance while 60% disapprove.
