Tan France, known for his role on Queer Eye, surprised fans on Wednesday with a dramatic hair transformation. The 43-year-old reality TV star took to Instagram to share a reel showcasing his new look: freshly dyed black hair, neatly combed to the side.
A Temporary Change for a Role
In the Instagram clip, France explained that he changed his signature silver hair for an upcoming acting role. He reassured fans that he would return to his natural color after the project wraps up. 'Don't freak out,' he began. 'I know my hair's dark. It's fine.' He added, 'I know it's very weird to see me with dark hair. It's weird to see myself with dark hair.'
Addressing the Confusion
France revealed he wasn't planning to share the change but felt compelled after people reacted with confusion. 'I wasn't going to share this at all, but I've been out twice in the last couple days, and people are very confused,' he said. 'So I just need to make it clear, this is not a midlife crisis.' He emphasized his dislike for the dyed look, stating, 'I hate dark hair on me. I love my silver hair. I love my grays. I'm not ashamed of them whatsoever. I'm really proud of my grays.'
Upcoming Project
France is currently filming the holiday comedy Clashing Through the Snow, alongside Christopher Briney and Julia Fox. The film is inspired by Planes, Trains and Automobiles and follows two coworkers on a cross-country road trip. He hopes to revert to his natural hair color within the next month or two.
Fan Reactions
Fans and fellow celebrities flocked to the comments section. Supermodel Gigi Hadid wrote, 'Hahahahaha Tannyyyy this is u in a parallel universe,' accompanied by laughing emojis.
Life Beyond Queer Eye
Since his time on Queer Eye, France has taken on minor acting and voiceover roles, including an episode of Deli Boys. He also focuses on family life with his husband Rob France. The couple are parents to two sons: Ismail, born via surrogate in July 2021, and Isaac, born in May 2023. They raise their children in Salt Lake City, Utah.
