Beloved broadcaster and actor Stephen Fry has shared a chilling account of how he came within "three minutes of dying" after suffering a catastrophic allergic reaction while filming the hit BBC series The Traitors.
The 66-year-old national treasure, who serves as narrator for the hugely popular reality competition, described the terrifying incident that unfolded during production of the show's second series.
The Moment Everything Went Wrong
"I had an anaphylactic shock and was literally three minutes from dying," Fry revealed during an appearance on the River Cafe Table 4 podcast. The reaction occurred after he consumed a honey and hazelnut mousse containing an ingredient that triggered the life-threatening response.
Fry described feeling his throat closing up and experiencing difficulty breathing as the reaction took hold. "My throat closed up and I couldn't breathe," he recounted, painting a vivid picture of the medical emergency that sent production into panic mode.
Emergency Response Saves the Day
Fortunately, the production team acted swiftly, administering an EpiPen to counter the allergic reaction. "They had to jab me with an EpiPen," Fry explained, acknowledging that the quick thinking of those around him likely saved his life.
The incident occurred at the show's filming location at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, adding an extra layer of drama to what was already a tension-filled production.
