In a deeply emotional and revealing family podcast, Sharon Osbourne has shared heartbreaking new details about the final months of her husband, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, pinpointing a secret fall as the catalyst for a devastating chain of events.
The Secret Fall That Started It All
Speaking on The Osbournes podcast in her first appearance since his passing, a tearful Sharon explained that the decline in Ozzy's health began to accelerate in December of last year. The family had been planning a trip to Finland, but Ozzy remained in the UK as he was not feeling well.
It was during this time that he suffered a little fall, which he initially kept secret. Sharon recounted that he complained his back hurt, but the full severity was not immediately known. The family left for their holiday on December 10th, with plans for Ozzy to join them later.
Their son, Jack Osbourne, who has since joined I'm A Celebrity, elaborated on the podcast, revealing that his father wasn't very good at handling pain and, in a characteristic act of stoicism, did not tell anyone about the seriousness of his fall. It was later discovered that the fall had caused a fracture in his vertebrae.
A Devastating Domino Effect on His Health
Sharon expressed her profound sadness, stating that given Ozzy's age, his complex medical history, and his past issues with substance abuse, his body was unlikely to recover from such an injury. Someone of his age with his medical state, she said, meant it would have taken a miracle for the fracture to heal itself.
Jack Osbourne somberly confirmed that this injury initiated a domino effect of ill health. Following the back fracture, the Black Sabbath frontman developed pneumonia and required surgery. This series of health crises ultimately culminated in the heart attack that claimed his life in July of this year at the age of 76.
Family Grief and an Outpouring of Love
The podcast, which marked the first time in over a year the entire family had recorded together, also served as a raw outlet for their grief. Sharon admitted she has been struggling with sleep since her husband's death. Their daughter, Kelly, shared that the mornings are the hardest for her, as she momentarily forgets that her father is gone.
Despite their profound loss, the family found immense comfort in the global reaction to Ozzy's passing. Kelly described the outpouring of love from fans as incredibly helpful, stating it made them feel less alone in their sadness. Sharon movingly added that Ozzy himself never realised how much he was loved and never took his fame for granted, which was part of his unique beauty.
