Actress and writer Sharon Horgan has made her first public appearance since the tragic death of her ex-husband Jeremy Rainbird's new girlfriend, Caroline Towning, at the age of 42.
A Tragic Loss in Mexico
It was reported on Tuesday that Caroline Towning, a celebrated equine artist and former managing director of the Blacks private members' club in London's Soho, had passed away in Mexico. She had been living there with Jeremy Rainbird, 52, at the time of her death. Following this sad news, Sharon Horgan, 55, was seen at the Women and Power speaker series on Tuesday afternoon, an event celebrating women in leadership and style.
Sharon Horgan's Public Engagement
The event was hosted by designer Edeline Lee, 45, who returned to London for the occasion. Sharon spoke at the curated programme, which brings together influential women from the arts, journalism, and politics, offering candid reflections on the realities of dressing for both on and off screen.
Jeremy Rainbird shared an emotional tribute to Caroline on social media, referring to her by her nickname, 'Pony', which she acquired due to her love of horses. 'Beautiful Pony, the brightest shining light,' he wrote. 'Forever in my heart.'
A Complex Personal History
The relationship between Jeremy and Caroline had only been revealed publicly last Friday in the Daily Mail, with friends describing it as 'tumultuous'. The couple were co-directors of the fashion label Maison Rockman and had shared affectionate photos from holidays in destinations like Los Angeles and Mykonos.
Jeremy's previous whirlwind romance with Sharon Horgan famously inspired her hit Channel 4 comedy, Catastrophe. Sharon fell pregnant just six months after they met, and the show, starring Rob Delaney, was based on their experiences. Jeremy was chairman of the Merman Group, which produced shows including the BBC hit Motherland.
The couple separated in 2019, and Sharon is now dating her Bad Sisters co-star Barry Ward. Earlier this year, she expressed regret about not ending her 14-year marriage sooner, stating, 'You get one life and that's an awful lot of time to spend on something that's not working.'
Sharon has also spoken openly about the positive changes in her life post-divorce, telling Red Magazine she felt 'more in control and more independent' and is 'certainly happier' now.
