Iconic 'Sex And The City' Props Head to Auction in California
Devotees of the beloved franchise have a unique opportunity to own a piece of television history as Julien's Auctions prepares to sell a collection of props and costumes from the spin-off series And Just Like That. The auction, featuring items from the show that premiered in 2021, marks the first time fans can purchase memorabilia directly from the production.
Highlights of the Auction Collection
The star lots include personal items belonging to Sarah Jessica Parker's iconic character, Carrie Bradshaw. Her suitcases are estimated to fetch between 300 and 500 US dollars, offering a tangible connection to the fashionista's globe-trotting adventures.
Perhaps even more poignant is the engraved watch and jewellery box that belonged to Carrie's late husband, Mr Big. This emotionally significant piece carries a higher estimate of 800 to 1,000 dollars, reflecting its narrative importance within the series.
Additional Coveted Items Up for Bids
The auction extends beyond Carrie's possessions to include other memorable artifacts:
- The manuscript of Carrie's book Loved And Lost, expected to raise 200-300 dollars
- A jumpsuit worn by Cynthia Nixon's character Miranda Hobbes
- Miranda's Bottega Veneta clutch bag
- Furniture from the show including a chandelier estimated at 600-800 dollars
- A Louis XVI-style Demilune Credenza with an estimate of 1,000-2,000 dollars
Authenticity and Charitable Commitment
Each item comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Warner Bros Discovery, ensuring buyers receive genuine pieces from the production. Following the auction, Warner Bros Discovery will make a substantial one-time donation to You Gotta Believe (YGB), a charity dedicated to finding permanent families for older children and young adults in foster care.
This charitable connection holds special significance as the late actor Willie Garson, who portrayed Stanford Blatch in both Sex And The City and its spin-off, was deeply involved with YGB. Garson adopted his son Nathen from foster care and served on the charity's advisory board, with Nathen now continuing this family legacy as a current board member.
Auction Details and Industry Perspective
The two-day live auction event will take place in Gardenia, California on April 30 and May 1, concluding Julien's online bidding process. Martin Nolan, co-founder and executive director of Julien's Auctions, emphasized the cultural significance of this sale.
'And Just Like That...: The Auction features an unparalleled selection of iconic fashions and furnishings, and is the perfect bridge between high-end living and pop culture collecting,' Nolan stated. 'Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte have defined elegance and luxury for generations of fans, who now have a chance to take part in the preservation of their favourite characters' legacies.'
Nolan further noted that 'by merging luxury with media, Julien's is meeting the demand for lifestyle-led collecting where every piece tells a story.'
Franchise Context and Legacy
And Just Like That revived the beloved characters from Sex And The City, which originally aired from 1998 to 2004 and spawned two films in 2008 and 2010. The spin-off series, announced in January 2021, brought back Parker, Nixon, and Kristin Davis as Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte for three seasons, concluding with a finale that saw Carrie embracing independence.
This auction not only offers collectors rare memorabilia but also supports a meaningful cause connected to the show's cast, creating a unique intersection of entertainment history and social impact.
