Serena Williams left fans gobsmacked with her remarkable body transformation as the tennis icon prepares for her long-awaited return to the court. The 44-year-old is set to compete in a doubles match at Queen's on Tuesday, marking her first competitive appearance since the 2022 US Open.
Fitness Journey Unveiled
The 23-time Grand Slam champion documented her fitness journey on social media, displaying a noticeably slimmer physique compared to her playing days. Williams, who gave birth to her second child in August 2023, remained committed to staying in peak condition throughout her hiatus.
In January 2024, Williams shared her determination to get fit via an Instagram Reel, stating: "Alright, I'm getting back into the swing of things. This is not my usual weight, but it'll do until I get back to where I need to be."
Training Updates and Fan Reactions
By July 2025, Williams showcased her toned abs in an Instagram post while training, captioned: "Working out and working on my angles." Fans were stunned by her new look, with comments such as: "Insane - you look stunning - so fit, so gorgeous," and "Ripped! Consistent lifestyle changes (diet/exercise) are paying off!"
Williams later re-entered the anti-doping testing pool, a mandatory six-month requirement before competing. Earlier this month, she accepted a wildcard to partner with 19-year-old Victoria Mboko at Queen's. The duo faces third seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe.
Return to Competition
Williams, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, expressed her excitement: "Queen's Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter. Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I'm excited to be back competing on one of the sport's most iconic stages."
Her comeback has sparked speculation about a potential Wimbledon return, with wildcards expected next week. Williams reflected on her motivations: "This whole journey is no pressure, I've had enough pressure, it's about so many elements. My kids getting to see me play, Olympia is older, an athlete is the best thing you can be in the highest place. Having an opportunity to do that one last time is exciting."
