Sarah Abo Announces Pregnancy on Today Show, Reveals Bumpy Journey

Today show presenter Sarah Abo broke down in tears during a live broadcast as she announced she is expecting her first child with her husband Cyrus Moran. The emotional revelation came on Wednesday morning's breakfast show, where the 40-year-old Syrian-born journalist shared both her joy and the difficulties of their path to parenthood.

Emotional On-Air Announcement

'I'm going to try and fail to maintain my composure. But yes, Cyrus and I are expecting a little baby,' Sarah said during the broadcast, her voice trembling with emotion. 'I know, it's obviously very happy news and everything ... It hasn't been the easiest journey to get here, which a lot of people I know have gone through and will go through.'

The television personality went on to explain that pregnancy hasn't been as straightforward as she might have imagined. 'It's not as easy as you sometimes think that pregnancy will be. So, it has been a bit of a bumpy ride, but here we are. And yes, it's getting harder to hide. As much as I'd like to bury my head in the sand and not address it, I think, yeah, we're almost halfway now.'

Private Husband and Relationship Details

Sarah has been married to Cyrus Moran since 2012, though she typically keeps details about their relationship private. Cyrus works as a trader at a Victorian steel mill, where he facilitates trade between Australian and international companies. Both are graduates of Monash University, with Cyrus completing his Bachelor of Arts History degree in 2004, the same year Sarah began studying journalism at the institution.

Despite her usual discretion, Sarah occasionally shares glimpses of their life together on social media. One Instagram post from May 2023 showed the couple celebrating Cyrus' 40th birthday, with Sarah lovingly embracing him at a party. She captioned the photo: 'Happy birthday. Beautiful, blurry, you. #fortyandfine.'

Cyrus Moran's Preference for Privacy

Sarah recently revealed why her husband prefers to stay out of the spotlight, explaining to Stellar magazine and the Something To Talk About podcast that Cyrus maintains a deliberately low profile. 'It's not as though he's hiding. It's just that he's not in the media,' she said, noting that people often seem surprised her husband of 13 years doesn't want a media career.

'For some reason that seems to be hard to understand for some people. It's like, "No, mate. I've got a weird job and a weird life... he doesn't,"' Sarah explained. This commitment to privacy has led to some awkward situations, including when Cyrus declined to appear on a special edition of the Today show to mark Sarah's 40th birthday.

'Today wanted to get my family in Melbourne up via video link, but they were like, "Oh, Cyrus, can you just come on set and just wish Sarah a happy birthday,"' she recalled. 'And he was like, "Absolutely not." He said to me, "Are you gonna kill me if I don't come on the telly? I'm really sorry. Do you mind if I don't do it?"'

Mutual Support in Their Relationship

Sarah revealed that mutual support forms a cornerstone of their relationship, telling her husband she would respect whatever decision he made about appearing on television. 'He said, "I will if you really want me to, but I really don't want to." I was like, "I don't want you to do anything you're not comfortable with." It's just not who he is,' she explained.

Career Move to Today Show

Channel Nine announced in November 2022 that Sarah, a former 60 Minutes reporter, would be replacing Allison Langdon on the Today show alongside Karl Stefanovic. 'I am thrilled to be joining the wonderful and hard-working team at Today, who manage to inform the nation every morning while also having a lot of fun,' Sarah said in a press release at the time.

The pregnancy announcement marks a significant personal milestone for Sarah as she continues her professional role on one of Australia's most prominent breakfast television programs.
