A father is running 240 miles (386km) to raise money for a children's charity that supported his family when his daughter was being treated in hospital. Ryan Gosling aims to raise £10,000 by running from Barnstaple to Bristol and back in six days.
He is taking on the challenge for Ronald McDonald House after it provided free accommodation while his daughter Indie was in hospital at five days old. Indie was admitted to Bristol Royal Infirmary in October 2022 after being diagnosed with hyperglycaemia.
Ronald McDonald House provided 'home away from home' accommodation at the nearby Bristol House, allowing the parents to stay close to their daughter during her three weeks in hospital. The charity supported the family through Indie's recovery and saved them hundreds of pounds in travel and hotel costs.
Mr Gosling, an Army commando, has taken on the long-distance run to give back to the charity and help Ronald McDonald House continue its work across the country. He began his run on 8 October, the first anniversary of his daughter being admitted to hospital, and has currently raised £6,600.
'A lot of families have gone through this around the country,' he said. 'Ronald McDonald Houses are everywhere, and people need to know they can turn to them for help,' added Mr Gosling.
