Broadcaster Roman Kemp has made a startling revelation about his time on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2019, disclosing that producers edited out a crucial conversation where he questioned fellow campmate Caitlyn Jenner about OJ Simpson and the infamous murder case.
The Jungle Interrogation That Never Aired
Kemp, who was 32 during his jungle stint, has admitted he possesses "no filter" and felt compelled to ask the questions others avoided. He found himself in a unique position with Jenner, the 76-year-old Olympic decathlon legend, whose connection to the Simpson case runs deep through her ex-wife, Kris Jenner.
Kris Jenner was the best friend of Nicole Brown Simpson, OJ Simpson's former wife who was brutally murdered alongside her friend Ron Goldman on June 12, 1994, outside her Brentwood, California home. In a tragic twist of fate, Nicole and Kris had planned to have lunch on the very day of the murder.
Roman Kemp didn't hesitate to explore this dark chapter of history, recalling his direct approach: "I went to Caitlyn, 'Tell me about O.J. Simpson'". He described how this question immediately captured the attention of all their campmates, who suddenly stopped their activities to listen intently.
Jenner's Stance on the Simpson Case
The conversation was particularly significant because Caitlyn Jenner had previously stated her belief that OJ Simpson was responsible for the murders but had "got away with it". This perspective carries extra weight given the involvement of Robert Kardashian, Kris's ex-husband, who served as OJ Simpson's defence attorney during the highly publicised 1995 trial where Simpson was acquitted.
Despite the compelling nature of this exchange, ITV producers decided to cut the scene from the final broadcast. Kemp noted that Jenner indicated the information was available in her book anyway, but the moment represented exactly why he values his role as a broadcaster - the opportunity to have extraordinary conversations with remarkable people.
Beyond the Controversy: Broader Camp Dynamics
Kemp reflected more broadly on his experience with Jenner in the jungle, praising her openness about her transition. "What was fascinating for me was to learn about a trans person; it was amazing for me to learn about the difficulties and challenges of someone going through transitioning, surgically and non-surgically," he said.
He also commented on the unique environment of the I'm A Celebrity camp, describing it as perhaps the happiest he's ever been in his life, despite the challenging living conditions and infamous Bushtucker Trials. "I felt like in there, I wasn't anyone. In the first week, you're working it out. Then in the last two weeks, you are just yourself and you're happy," Kemp revealed.
As a new series of I'm A Celebrity begins, featuring Kemp's father Martin among the contestants, Roman admits he experiences jealousy each year when new names are announced. He also shared an insider tip about spotting potential contestants before they're officially revealed, noting that he sometimes receives direct messages from people wanting to "catch up" about camping, making their involvement obvious.
Roman Kemp, who recently partnered with Marriott Bonvoy as their official Getaway Guru, finished his 2019 jungle adventure in third place, but the untold stories like his Simpson conversation with Jenner continue to emerge years later, revealing the complex editing decisions that shape the reality television viewers ultimately see.
