Prince William's Warmth to Beatrice and Eugenie Despite Andrew Fury

The Prince of Wales embraced his cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie at Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling's wedding on Saturday, a move that royal experts say demonstrates his enduring affection despite the turmoil surrounding their father, Prince Andrew.

A Telling Gesture at a Joyous Occasion

Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne, married Harriet Sperling in a charming and intimate ceremony in Cirencester. The wedding was attended by a host of royals, but all eyes were on the arrival of Beatrice and Eugenie, who have kept a low public profile amid recent controversies.

Rumours had swirled about whether the sisters would attend, given the National Audit Office report revealing King Charles has been paying for their London homes despite their non-working royal status, and the ongoing scandal over their father's association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

However, the sisters arrived with their husbands, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank, and were warmly greeted by Prince William. Royal expert Ingrid Seward told The Sun that William's actions were significant.

William's Stance: Sins of the Father

Ingrid Seward explained: "William has known the girls all their lives. Whatever his feelings for their father – and he has made no secret of his fury at the damage Andrew’s actions have heaped upon the monarchy – both he and Catherine have been clear on one point: the sins of the father are not the sins of the daughters."

The Prince of Wales's warmth was echoed by another cousin, Zara Tindall, who embraced Beatrice and Eugenie outside the church in Kemble, Gloucestershire. Seward noted that Zara "showed genuine warmth" in the reunion.

A Brave Appearance Amid Controversy

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told the Mirror that the sisters' attendance was "quite brave" given the intense media scrutiny they have faced. She said: "Peter has always been an immensely popular member of the family, so it was no surprise to see such a big turnout of royals. I thought it was quite brave of Beatrice and Eugenie to show up… knowing that the cameras would be on them."

Bond added that the sisters maintained a low profile, ensuring they did not draw attention from the bride and groom. "They've had a lot of highly critical press lately and it can't have been easy for them to face the media. But they did seem to keep quite a low profile, particularly as the bridal party left the church. I'm sure they were determined not to draw any of the limelight from the bride and groom, who looked incredibly happy and relaxed together."

A Day of Unity for the Royal Family

The wedding provided a much-needed moment of joy for the royal family, allowing them to present a united front despite recent damaging headlines. Bond concluded: "This was a much needed joyful day for the family, and a chance to show that they – or at least most of them – remain united in spite of all the damaging headlines of recent times."
