Prince Harry's humiliating nickname has sealed his fate, making it unlikely he will ever return to royal life. The Duke of Sussex, dubbed the "Duke of Netflix" by Sky News host Danica De Giorgio, has fully embraced a showbiz career since stepping back from royal duties in March 2020.
Showbiz Hustler, Not Genteel Royal
De Giorgio coined the scathing title during a monologue about Harry and Meghan Markle being snubbed from his cousin Peter Phillips' wedding to NHS nurse Harriet Sperling on June 6, 2026. The nickname perfectly captures how most perceive him now: a showbiz hustler rather than a genteel royal. Since Megxit, the fifth in line to the throne has pursued a Hollywood career, with a significant portion of his and Meghan's income coming from Netflix.
Even if he realized his error tomorrow, Harry cannot be taken seriously as royalty after baring his soul on TV for profit. Unlike his uncle Prince Edward, who had a genuine interest in the arts, Harry never showed interest in showbiz until meeting Meghan. Now, he embraces the lifestyle, producing vanity projects despite the failure of his Polo documentary and forging ahead with a drama set in the polo world.
Royal Family's Stance on Celebrity
The Royal Family has historically avoided the celebrity world to maintain gravitas. The late Queen Elizabeth II learned that TV celebrity and royalty do not mix. While events like her 1953 Coronation and annual Christmas message drew millions, they preserved royal mystique. However, the 1969 documentary Royal Family, intended to humanize the monarchy, was deemed "too intrusive" by the Queen and withdrawn after its initial broadcast, which attracted over 37 million UK viewers. Princess Anne also opposed it, stating she never liked the idea of the documentary.
Harry, however, feels differently and continues to lift the veil on his life in pursuit of showbiz success. This comes at the expense of any potential royal comeback, a lesson he appears yet to learn.
