John Prevost, the brother of Pope Leo XIV, has opened up about the family's enduring bond despite their political disagreements and recent attacks from former President Donald Trump. In an interview with CNN, Prevost detailed how the three Prevost brothers—including the pontiff—maintain weekly contact, deliberately steering clear of political topics to preserve harmony.
Family Dynamics Amid Political Turmoil
Donald Trump had previously singled out Pope Leo's eldest brother, Louis, calling him a “MAGA-type” while criticizing the Pope's stance on the Iran war. Pope Leo has consistently called for peace in the Middle East following the conflict, which Trump initiated alongside Israel. Trump has repeatedly attacked the pontiff, falsely claiming that he supports Iran having nuclear weapons. In response, Pope Leo reiterated the Church's firm opposition to all nuclear weapons.
Brothers United Despite Differences
John Prevost emphasized that the brothers avoid discussing politics to protect their relationship. “Families fight, but we stay close,” he said. The Pope has also stated that it is “not in my interest at all” to debate Trump, focusing instead on his spiritual mission. The family's resilience highlights how personal bonds can withstand public and political pressure.
