Penny Lancaster Reveals How Time Apart Keeps Her Marriage to Rod Stewart Strong
Penny Lancaster: Time Apart Strengthens Marriage to Rod Stewart

Penny Lancaster has candidly discussed the dynamics of her long-standing marriage to music icon Sir Rod Stewart, revealing an unconventional yet effective strategy for keeping their relationship vibrant. The couple, who have been together for 26 years and married since 2007, credit regular periods of separation as a key factor in sustaining their bond.

The Power of Distance in Marriage

In a recent interview with Best Magazine, Lancaster, a panelist on Loose Women, explained that she and Stewart do not live in each other's pockets. Instead, they intentionally spend time apart, which she believes helps keep the spark alive. At the time of the interview, the pair had been separated for three weeks and were eagerly anticipating a reunion.

"We're desperately missing each other and have been counting down the days," Lancaster shared. "Rod generally has a driver pick him up from the airport, but I'm meeting him because we can't wait to see each other." She noted that this pattern of separation has been a constant since the beginning of their relationship 26 years ago.

Early Days and Communication

Reflecting on their first year together, Lancaster recalled that she was studying photography in the UK while Stewart was based in the US. This geographical distance meant much of their interaction occurred through phone calls and screens. "We'd spend hours and hours on the phone talking about everything, including photography and paintings," she revealed, highlighting how deep conversations helped forge their connection.

Lancaster also offered insights into Stewart's personality away from the public eye, describing him as having a "deeply, spiritual, sensitive and artistic side." She added, "That's the real man. He can be quite demanding and he does require a lot of attention, but that's fine because I'm good at giving it."

Effort and Intimacy in Their Relationship

Beyond time apart, Lancaster emphasized that consistent effort is crucial to their marriage's success. The couple prioritizes regular date nights, whether attending the theatre or enjoying long romantic walks together. She also mentioned that they continue to flirt and make each other laugh to maintain intimacy. "We don't take each other for granted," Lancaster stated, underscoring their commitment to nurturing their partnership.

Family Dynamics and Fatherhood

Penny Lancaster is Rod Stewart's third wife, following his marriages to Rachel Hunter and Alana Stewart. Together, they have two sons: Alastair Stewart and Aiden Stewart. Stewart is also father to six other children from previous relationships: Sarah, Kimberly, Ruby, Renee, Sean, and Liam.

Previously, Stewart has spoken about the challenges of fatherhood across such a large age range. His eldest daughter, Sarah Streeter, is 62, while his youngest with Lancaster is 14. "You really have to treat all of them as individuals with individual problems," he told MailOnline. "As a dad, I’ve learned to listen and not blow my top."

This blend of personal space, dedicated effort, and family understanding appears to be the foundation of Lancaster and Stewart's enduring marriage, offering a unique perspective on maintaining long-term relationships in the public eye.
