Loose Women presenter Penny Lancaster has playfully called out her husband, music legend Sir Rod Stewart, for what she describes as his "strange" Christmas preferences, as he firmly opts out of one of her favourite festive traditions.
A Festive Breakfast Without Fizz
The former model has disclosed that her ideal Christmas morning involves a luxurious meal. "We like a posh breakfast and I'll have a glass of champagne with eggs and smoked salmon," Penny told Woman Magazine. However, the rock star, known for hits like 'Hot Legs', draws the line at morning bubbles. "Rod won't partake in the champagne in the morning. He doesn't even like champagne!" she revealed.
Rod's Pub Pilgrimage and Peculiar Tipple
Steering clear of fizz at breakfast doesn't mean a dry Christmas Day for Rod. Penny shared that her husband's non-negotiable custom is a family visit to the pub. She heads there with Rod and their two sons, Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14. His current drink of choice raised an eyebrow. "At the moment, his favourite two drinks are a pint of Guinness and a glass of rosé - a strange combination," Penny said, quickly clarifying, "Not in one glass, obviously!"
Penny also admitted she is the driving force behind the festive decorations in their home, while Rod "just sees the house being turned upside down." Despite this, there is much anticipation for this year's celebrations. Penny expressed hope that Rod's adult children from previous relationships—Ruby, Liam, and Sean—might visit from America, bringing his young grandchildren with them.
Blended Family Festivities and New Traditions
Rod Stewart is a father to eight children with five different women. His family includes daughters Sarah, 61, Kimberly, 46, Ruby, 38, and Renee, 33, as well as sons Sean, 45, and Liam, 31, alongside Alastair and Aiden with Penny.
Penny lovingly spoke about the joy grandchildren bring, saying, "Now my boys are older, having the grandchildren to stay will reignite the magic that you get when you see the festive period through a child's eyes."
The family has also embraced a new tradition to celebrate their Scottish roots. On January 1st, Penny announced that Alastair and Aiden had celebrated their first Hogmanay. She posted a heartwarming Instagram photo of the boys wearing traditional kilts alongside their father, noting they "are proud of their Scottish heritage" from Rod's side of the family.
