Paris Jackson has publicly criticised the upcoming biopic about her father, Michael Jackson, denying any involvement and accusing the film of being 'sugar-coated' and containing 'full-blown lies'. The 27-year-old singer and actor took to Instagram on Tuesday to reject claims by actor Colman Domingo that she had been supportive of the production.
Domingo, who plays family patriarch Joe Jackson in the film Michael, had told People magazine that Paris and her brother Prince were 'very much in support of our film' and that Paris had been 'nothing but lovely and warm'. Paris responded: 'Don't be telling people I was "helpful" on the set of a movie I had zero per cent involvement in lol that is so weird.'
She explained that she had read an early draft of the script and given notes about what was 'dishonest', but when those notes were not addressed, she moved on. 'A big section of the film panders to a very specific section of my dad's fandom that still lives in the fantasy,' she wrote. 'The narrative is being controlled and there's a lot of inaccuracy and a lot of just full-blown lies.'
The biopic, produced in conjunction with the Jackson estate, has been in development since 2019 and stars Michael Jackson's nephew Jaafar Jackson in the lead role. The film has faced controversy over reported legal issues regarding a third-act plotline involving one of Michael Jackson's accusers, though a source close to the production denied the film was in chaos.
Paris concluded her comments by distancing herself entirely from the project: 'Go enjoy it. Do whatever. Leave me out of it.'
