North West's Bold Nail Art Sparks Discussion Amid Fashion and Music Ventures

Kim Kardashian's daughter North West unveiled a striking set of bold nails in new social media posts on Thursday, captivating her 2.5 million Instagram followers. The 12-year-old, eldest child of the SKIMS founder and rapper Kanye West, shared an assortment of photos and clips to showcase her latest look, which quickly drew attention for its intricate design and cultural references.

Detailed Nail Art with Japanese Influences

In one image, North displayed long blue nails adorned with silver studs and what appeared to be mini piercing embellishments. Some nails featured 'North-chan' written in Japanese with pink lettering, a nod to the track Bomb from her father and Ty Dolla $ign's Vultures 2 album released in 2024. North and her sister Chicago, eight, were featured on the song, with the preteen rapping a verse in Japanese.

She additionally shared a video clip where the camera slowly zoomed in to highlight the nail details, tagging licensed nail technician Noehmi Saldana and Akemi Santiago in the reel. Another slide showed a selfie with North placing a hand over her mouth to flaunt the bold look, wearing a fuzzy black cap printed with 'Nor11' over her long blue hair.

Connection to Music and Past Controversies

A blurry picture depicted North holding shopping bags on a street in Japan, with lyrics from her recent track Piercing On My Hand appearing on screen: 'Shoppin' in Japan, that's where I always stand.' This comes after the preteen sparked fan concern last year over 'risky' finger and facial piercings. In August, she revealed what seemed to be a dermal piercing on her right hand during an Italy trip with her mother, and in October, she debuted fake face tattoos and grillz on TikTok.

North addressed the criticism in December via a joint TikTok account with Kim Kardashian, posting a selfie video with text reading: 'this is for everyone that's mad over a finger piercing.' Kim initially responded to backlash by calling it a 'non-issue,' though it was later revealed North penned the message herself. The preteen has continued to showcase piercings, including in January and last month during a shopping spree.

Expanding Music and Business Endeavors

North's track, Piercing On My Hand, released in early February with production from her father Ye and Will Frenchman, serves as a response to negative feedback on her piercings. Her music career is gaining momentum; she made a surprise feature on FKA Twigs' album EUSEXUA last January, rapping in Japanese, and signed a deal with Gamma in February, an independent label run by former Apple executive Larry Jackson that also represents Mariah Carey.

According to sources, North has begun recording sessions under this new partnership, and she was recently spotted leaving a nighttime studio session in Los Angeles with her mother. Kim Kardashian appears supportive of her daughter's ventures, with trademark applications filed for NOR11 covering clothing, accessories, jewelry, and bags through KimYe's Kid Inc. North has already modeled hats with the NOR11 logo on her Instagram, hinting at a larger business rollout.
