BBC News presenter Nina Warhurst has received an outpouring of support after sharing a heartfelt update about a difficult week at work. The 45-year-old journalist, known for her role on BBC Breakfast and now presenting BBC's News at One, took to Instagram on Friday, June 19, to reflect on covering harrowing stories involving children.
Difficult Week Covering Tragic Stories
Warhurst revealed that the week had been emotionally challenging, particularly due to coverage of the murder of 13-month-old Preston Davey. The teacher who killed the baby was sentenced to life in prison, while his partner received a 25-year sentence. Warhurst wrote: "It's been a difficult week at work. The stories affecting children have weighed heavy on all of us in the office." She added that she was spending a gentle day with her own child and planned to say a prayer for "the ones who didn't get the start in life that every single child deserves."
Praise for BBC Teams
Warhurst praised her colleagues at the BBC for their professionalism, stating: "Weeks like this I am proud of the teams at the BBC for listening to the unlistenable in court, allowing families broken hearts to be seen, and their voices to be heard. Our journalists work hard to get it right, and inevitably sometimes it comes home." She concluded with a powerful message: "Children who suffer should never be forgotten."
Overwhelming Support from Fans and Colleagues
The post quickly garnered supportive comments. Documentarian Stacey Dooley wrote: "I can't even get past the first paragraphs without crying. It's incomprehensible. Sending love." Another fan urged Warhurst to take care of herself, saying: "Stories like this must really play on your mind. Please make sure you take care of yourself Nina." A third commenter noted: "I was thinking exactly this yesterday when you were reading the news at one. I thought it must be awful for you to have to read these things out and the poor journalists and court people who have to listen to it too!" Others praised her professionalism, with one saying: "Well done for delivering such harrowing news with professionalism. I'm sure I'd have stood there and cried."
Recent Concerns Over Appearance
This update comes after Warhurst previously sparked concern among fans over her appearance, when she appeared on air with makeup only on one side of her face. She later explained on social media: "Thanks for the concerned msgs about my asymmetrical mush. I'm in no pain or discomfort, and my lovely pharmacist is helping - left eye just needs a few days off makeup." Warhurst joined BBC Breakfast in 2018 and became lead business presenter in 2020 before leaving the show in March 2025 to present BBC's News at One.
