Mike Tindall has admitted Royal Ascot can become a 'nightmare' in hot weather, just a day after he and wife Zara Tindall were briefly turned away in an awkward incident.
The former England rugby star and the King's niece made headlines on the opening day of the event when a security guard failed to recognise Zara and initially refused the couple entry through the owners' entrance.
The awkward moment was quickly resolved after another member of staff intervened and confirmed Zara was entitled to enter through that route.
The pair took the incident in good humour, stopping to pose for photographs and chat with racegoers before making their way into the Royal Enclosure.
Among those accompanying the couple at Ascot was former Wales international and ex-Cardiff Blues fly-half Nicky Robinson, along with ex-England star Austin Healey.
Now back at the Berkshire racecourse for day two of the Royal Meeting, Tindall has opened up on another challenge associated with one of Britain's most prestigious sporting and social events.
Speaking to The Luxury Dispatch, the 47-year-old revealed the soaring temperatures can make for uncomfortable conditions, particularly when wearing formal attire.
'If it's too hot, it's a bit of a nightmare,' Tindall said.
'The sweat is ongoing. Don't take the hat off, or it's like a pool of water drops out.'
Temperatures at Ascot are expected to climb into the high twenties this week, creating testing conditions for racegoers dressed in the traditional top hats, tails and formal dresses associated with the event.
Tindall also offered some light-hearted advice to anyone attending Royal Ascot and keen to avoid an expensive mistake.
'Never leave your hat in the toilet and forget about it,' he joked.
'They're not cheap, and people know that.'
Royal Ascot remains one of the biggest fixtures in the British sporting calendar, attracting members of the Royal Family, celebrities and leading figures from the worlds of sport and entertainment.
Tindall and Zara are regular visitors to the meeting and have become familiar faces at the event since marrying in 2011.
The couple, who have three children together, are expected to attend several days of this year's Royal Meeting as racing continues through to Saturday.
