Hollywood star Mel Gibson and his long-term partner, screenwriter Rosalind Ross, have officially ended their relationship after nine years together.
A Joint Statement Confirms the Split
The 69-year-old actor and director and the 35-year-old writer confirmed their separation in a joint statement to People magazine. They revealed that their romantic partnership concluded over a year ago, but emphasised their commitment to raising their son together. The couple share an eight-year-old boy named Lars.
"Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible," the statement read. Representatives for Gibson have been contacted by The Independent for further comment.
From Meeting to Family Life
The pair first met back in 2014 through mutual friends and began dating soon after. Their relationship became public knowledge, and in 2017, they announced that Ross was expecting their first child together.
This separation marks the end of a significant chapter for Gibson, whose personal life has often been in the public eye. Gibson has a total of nine children. With his ex-wife, Robyn Moore, he has seven: one daughter, Hannah, 45, and six sons—Christian and Edward (both 43), William (40), Louis (37), Milo (35), and Thomas (26). He also has a 16-year-old daughter, Lucia, with his former girlfriend, pianist Oksana Grigorieva.
Looking Forward: Co-Parenting and Careers
The focus for both Gibson and Ross now is their shared responsibility as parents. Their statement underscores a mature and amicable approach to their co-parenting duties, prioritising the wellbeing of their young son above all else.
Mel Gibson, an Oscar-winning figure known for films like Braveheart and Hacksaw Ridge, continues his work in the film industry. Rosalind Ross is an accomplished screenwriter. Their decision to handle the separation privately and with a united front for their child's sake is a notable aspect of this celebrity split.
