Maya Jama Debunks 'Turkey Teeth' Claims, Reveals £6k Invisible Braces
Maya Jama hits back at 'turkey teeth' trolls

Love Island presenter Maya Jama has publicly corrected a social media user who criticised her appearance, firmly denying claims she had undergone a 'turkey teeth' procedure.

Setting the Record Straight on Social Media

The 30-year-old television star, who is currently hosting Love Island: All Stars in South Africa, was prompted to respond after viewers commented on her smile following the show's launch. On X, formerly Twitter, one user wrote: "Ahhh Maya what have you done with your teeth?" while another claimed: "Maya got Turkey teeth - I loveeeeeeed her old teeth so much."

Jama was quick to clarify the situation. She replied directly, stating: “Girl I have not got Turkey teeth l've got braces (behind my teeth on the top and outside on the bottom). I wasn't mad at my lil crook but can never please em all, last season I was getting messages about them being bent."

The Truth Behind the Smile: High-End Invisible Braces

Contrary to the online speculation, Maya Jama opted for a discreet and advanced orthodontic treatment ahead of the new Love Island series. She had lingual braces fitted in October 2025 at the Chelsea Dental clinic.

This method involves fixing braces behind the teeth, making them completely invisible when she smiles. The treatment is a premium option, with costs starting from around £6,000. Dr. Rhona, founder of Chelsea Dental, explained to Hello! magazine: “Lingual braces are fixed braces that sit behind your teeth, on the tongue side, so they’re completely invisible when you smile. They work just like traditional braces, offering precise control over tooth movement but with total discretion.”

Dr. Annika Patel, who oversaw Maya’s treatment, added that this technique is particularly popular with public figures. She noted that the process typically takes 12 to 18 months to complete, though more complex cases can take closer to two years.

Fan Reactions and Broader Concerns Over Online Abuse

Maya's clarification sparked a wave of reactions from her followers. Some were supportive, with one user questioning: “What the hell is turkey teeth? Nothing wrong with your teeth.” Others joked about the cost, with one writing: “Same hun. Would’ve been cheaper turkey teeth n all!”

Despite the unwelcome commentary on her appearance, Jama maintained a philosophical outlook. She affirmed she was happy with her original smile, saying “I liked my little crook,” and acknowledged that “You can’t please everyone.”

This incident is not the only time the presenter has had to confront troubling online behaviour recently. She also made a public appeal to Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok, requesting it stop altering or creating deepfake images of her after followers asked it to generate manipulated bikini photos.

Jama, who has nearly 700,000 followers on X, wrote directly to the AI: "Hey @grok, I do not authorise you to take, modify, or edit any photo of mine." She revealed a past incident where photoshopped nude images, created from her Instagram photos, were circulated online, even reaching her mother.

Love Island: All Stars, featuring returning islanders like Whitney Adebayo and Millie Court, continues on ITV2 and ITVX. Alongside her hosting duties, Maya Jama is also set to star in the second season of Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen and serve as a judge on The Masked Singer.
