Married At First Sight star and dating coach Mel Schilling has revealed she has been diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 54. The television personality shared the devastating news in an emotional social media post, detailing her two-year battle with the disease.
A Heartbreaking Health Journey
Schilling was first diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2023 when doctors discovered a tumour the size of a lemon during a routine scan. She underwent surgery to remove the growth, which she affectionately nicknamed "Terry," and initially received positive news about her recovery prospects.
The Cancer's Aggressive Spread
Unfortunately, during a follow-up scan in late February 2024, medical professionals discovered small nodules in her lungs, indicating the cancer had metastasised. Despite undergoing sixteen rounds of chemotherapy while continuing to film Married At First Sight, and being approved for a groundbreaking clinical trial scheduled for March 2026, her situation took another dramatic turn.
Over the Christmas period, Schilling began experiencing severe headaches and numbness down her right side. Subsequent tests revealed the cancer had spread to the left side of her brain. Although she underwent radiotherapy treatments, her oncology team has now informed her there is nothing more they can do medically.
Facing Mortality with Courage
In her poignant statement, Schilling wrote: "Hearing those words changes everything. So that's where I am now. My light is starting to fade—and quickly. But I am still here, still fighting, and surrounded by the most incredible love."
The television personality described how simple daily tasks have become increasingly difficult, requiring her to rely on family members for care and support. She expressed uncertainty about how much time she has remaining but emphasised her determination to continue fighting.
