Macaulay Culkin Open to 'Home Alone' Sequel with Father-Son Trap Twist

Macaulay Culkin has indicated he would consider returning to his iconic role as Kevin McCallister for a new 'Home Alone' sequel, provided the concept is right. The actor shared a pitch during his 'A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin' tour, envisioning a grown-up Kevin as a widower or divorcee locked out of his house by his own son, who sets traps to keep him out.

Culkin described the idea as a reversal of the original films: 'I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid... I get locked out. [Kevin’s son] won’t let me in… and he’s the one setting traps for me.' He added that the house would serve as 'a metaphor for our relationship,' with Kevin needing to 'get let back into [his] son’s heart.'

The actor stressed that any sequel would need to be 'just right,' but said he is 'not completely allergic' to the idea. His comments come after director Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two films, told Entertainment Tonight in August that a new 'Home Alone' movie should never be made, calling the original 'a very special moment' that cannot be recaptured.

Neither Culkin nor Columbus were involved in the 1997 'Home Alone 3' or the 2002 television sequel. Disney's 2021 reboot 'Home Sweet Home Alone' received poor reviews, which Culkin's pitch might aim to avoid by focusing on a mature Kevin rather than a new child protagonist.
