Love Island contestant Mica Harris has a surprising family connection: her aunt is Mia Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados. The 21-year-old has met several celebrities through her aunt, including global pop star Rihanna.
Harris recalled meeting Rihanna unexpectedly during a visit to her grandparents. 'She was staying two houses down from my grandparents and my aunt was taking me to see them. But then we turned up outside this house I didn’t recognise and Auntie Mia said, “Surprise, you’re meeting Rihanna!”' Harris described the singer as 'the loveliest person' and 'the people’s princess'.
Harris has also met media mogul Simon Cowell, though not through her family. She met him years ago while he was on holiday in Barbados. When asked if Cowell would recognise her on Love Island, she laughed and said no.
Her family's fame has partly prepared her for the spotlight. 'Only to a certain degree,' she said. 'There is always talk about my family in the papers, but not about me.' Her family advised her to 'just be yourself' and she added that she is no longer 'taking the bulls**t'.
Harris credits her mother for teaching her not to settle. Her plan for dealing with a difficult man is to 'have a word with him. If it gets to point where I can’t cope anymore, then I’ll move on.' She also aims to be respectful towards other girls but will pursue what she wants.
