Jake Bugg Slams 'Boring' and 'Corporate' Brit Awards

Brit-nominated singer Jake Bugg has criticised last week's Brit Awards, describing the ceremony as 'very boring' and the choice of performers as 'awful'. The 19-year-old, who lost out to Ben Howard for the British breakthrough act award, told Newsbeat at the NME Awards in London that the event felt 'corporate'.

'Those things are just not for me. It's a little bit corporate. The choice of artists they had on was awful,' said the Nottingham-born artist. Among the performers were Justin Timberlake, Mumford & Sons and Taylor Swift. Bugg suggested alternative acts, saying, 'I'd have had on Noel Gallagher, you could have had the Stone Roses on.'

Bugg also responded to criticism from One Direction's Louis Tomlinson, who tweeted: 'Hi Jake Bugg, do you think slagging off boy bands makes you more indie?' Bandmate Niall Horan added: 'Really buggs me that artists we're fans of, flip on us in the press.' Bugg replied: 'Not everyone is going to be a fan. As a songwriter it's very hard to listen to music that's not coming from the heart and soul personally. I'm not going to get involved in tweeting back because that's ridiculous.'
