Liam Payne, the late One Direction star, has left behind a fortune of £24.3 million after dying without a will, according to court documents. The 31-year-old singer died in October last year after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Cheryl Tweedy, his former partner and mother of his son Bear, has been appointed as an administrator of the estate alongside music industry lawyer Richard Mark Bray. Under intestacy rules in England and Wales, a person's spouse and children have first claim to the estate. Tweedy could place the fortune in a trust for Bear.

The gross value of the estate amounts to £28,594,888, while the net value after debts and expenses is £24,279,728. A postmortem report confirmed Payne died of multiple traumas and haemorrhage. In February, a court in Argentina dropped charges of criminal negligence against three of five people charged in connection with his death.
