Katie Price has publicly expressed regret over her past relationship with Gareth Gates, admitting on ITV's This Morning that she wishes she had never sold a story about him to the press. The 48-year-old former glamour model appeared alongside presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard to discuss her upcoming documentary series, Nothing to Hide, produced by Mindhouse, the company co-founded by Louis Theroux.
Relationship and Regret
Price revealed that she was surprised to see Pop Idol star Gareth Gates featured in her tell-all documentary. She stated that during their romance, they "were really into each other" and that it was not a "one-night thing." However, she confessed to regretting her decision to approach the press and sell a story about him after their brief relationship ended. "There's so many regrets in my life of things I wish I didn't do and one of them was I wish I never did the story on Gareth," Price told the presenters.
Apology and Context
Price acknowledged that she had hurt people along the way, adding, "But I can't unchange what I did. I can only apologise for like behaviour growing up." She noted that Gareth was young at the time and that she had a manager, but she felt hurt by his actions. The story, which emerged in 2002, involved intimate revelations about their romance, including the claim that she was his first sexual partner. At the time, Price was 23 and known as "Jordan," while Gates was 17 and had just finished as runner-up on Pop Idol.
Revenge Motivation
In the documentary, Price explained that she went to the press as an act of revenge. "He was smelling of roses and I'm the villain. I would try and text and text, and I got nothing. I was left in the lurch and it really hurt me. I'm like, 'you hurt me and I'll get you back'. By telling the truth, like a revenge," she said. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
