Piper's Dramatic History
Piper's return is significant for fans who followed Belle Dingle's harrowing abuse storyline at the hands of Tom King. The vet had told Belle that Piper died in a road accident, a lie concocted after Tom kidnapped the dog when he believed Belle was getting too close to Vinny Dingle. Tom intended to frame Vinny for losing Piper while secretly hiding her at the surgery, planning to play the hero by bringing her back. Viewers saw Tom speeding towards Piper, then pretending to try to save her with Rhona Goskirk.
