Katie Price has spoken about seeing her children, Junior and Princess Andre, in tears as they shared how her drug use impacted their childhoods in her new tell-all documentary. The former glamour model said she 'never knew' how much her children, who she shares with ex-husband Peter Andre, suffered during her breakdown, which is documented in her new Sky documentary series, Katie Price: Nothing to Hide.
Children's Emotional Testimony
The four-part series includes Katie's family, including Junior, 20, and Princess, 19, who told how they were often left to fend for themselves and cook their own dinners, leaving them feeling 'lonely and unloved'. Katie has now admitted she had no idea what the children were going through as she thought she was trying to be the 'perfect mum'.
Speaking on This Morning following the release of her documentary on Wednesday (July 8), she said: 'I told them to speak from their heart. Junior said after [the interview] he broke down, as did Princess.' '[It was] awful ... They are amazing. And when they done the interview ... They said: 'Mum if we're going to do this, we're going to be brutally honest ... and I said: 'I want you to speak from your heart.'
Katie's Breakdown and Suicide Attempt
'And Junior said, 'I proper broke down' and Princess said, 'So did I' and I was like 'Why?' [Because] I never knew [what they went through] because obviously I wanted to kill myself and I did try ... That period of my life, I don't think people realise when I said when I said I had a breakdown, I wanted to die, didn't want to be here.'
'And so as much as I thought I was being a mum, I wasn't. I was vacant ... For young kids like that wanting their mum ... I was trying to be the perfect mum and obviously I wasn't. It kills me I put them through that...'
Moving Forward
She went on to add: 'Obviously we've come through the other end and they're like: 'We've got our mum back' but what confused them is that I was such an amazing mum, had the breakdown, didn't have the mum that they needed and wanted.' 'I wasn't mentally there to be able to do it. And it kills me that I put them through that ... The kids knowing I wasn't right ... I put all my family through it ... it's awful but it's real life. It can happen to anyone.'
In Katie Price: Nothing to Hide, Junior said: 'I remember missing her so much and I remember this one time in particular, I was in her bed waiting for her to come back. I woke up, probably about 3.30am, to some loud noises. I saw her coming in the room and I'll never forget the look on her face … she was obviously on stuff, right? I could see it in her eyes.' 'And it scared me because I've never seen my mum look like that. She's there but she's not there. She wasn't being a mum. She wasn't the mum that I knew from being a little, little boy. Mum was on drugs and she could not look after us, and that is the reality of it. She couldn't.'
