Last month, Amanda Peet, aged 54, revealed in a deeply personal essay for The New Yorker that she was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer in August 2025. This devastating news coincided with both of her parents receiving end-of-life hospice care on opposite coasts of the United States. The actress, who stars alongside Hamm and Olivia Munn in Apple TV+'s dark comedy crime series Your Friends & Neighbors, wrote about this overwhelming convergence of personal crises in her article titled "My Season of Ativan."
Hamm's Compassionate Response
Jon Hamm, aged 55, disclosed that Peet had confided in him about her cancer diagnosis some time ago. "She had told me about her diagnosis sometime ago, and it's a very, very tricky balance to strike," Hamm told People. In the weeks following her first clear MRI scan, Peet received the news that her mother, in the final stages of Parkinson's disease, was also nearing the end of her life.

"I wasn't sure whether my mom knew that she was looking at me or whether I was just a constellation of interesting, disembodied shapes," she wrote about her final visits. "Time was running out, and, besides, I had already told her everything."
