Jesy Nelson's Mother Predicted Relationship Demise in Documentary
In a revealing new docuseries, Jesy Nelson's mother, Janice, appears to have anticipated the collapse of her daughter's engagement to Zion Foster. The former Little Mix star, aged 34, and Zion, 27, called off their engagement last month following a strenuous period early in the year while caring for their twin daughters.
Initial Doubts and Changing Opinions
Janice shared her early reservations in scenes filmed months before the split, stating she repeatedly told Jesy, 'he's not the one for you, he's too young, and he's not for you.' However, she later revised her view, acknowledging that Zion 'proved himself one billion per cent' and brought a positive calmness to Jesy's life, even suggesting they might be soulmates.
Concerns Over Intentions
Elsewhere in the documentary, Janice expressed worries about anyone dating Jesy due to her wealth and success, questioning if their intentions were genuine. She noted, 'I do worry with any boy she meets, are their intentions genuine?' but added that Zion stood out as different.
Emotional Proposal and Heartbreak
The series also features the couple's beach proposal in Cornwall, where Zion emotionally thanked Jesy for being the best partner and asked her to marry him. Jesy accepted, calling it the most beautiful ring. This scene now brings fresh heartache as their relationship has ended.
Challenges Leading to the Split
The breakup came just weeks after their twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, were diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1), a rare genetic condition causing muscle wastage. Jesy described the experience as traumatic, explaining that the energy between them shifted, making co-parenting their priority. She told The Daily Mail, 'We are still friends and we are still united in co-parenting our daughters.'
Health Struggles and Advocacy
Jesy had hoped to embrace motherhood after a complicated pregnancy involving twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, but her joy was shattered six months post-birth by the SMA diagnosis. She is now campaigning for all newborns to be tested for spinal muscular atrophy at birth, emphasizing that early diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment. She admitted feeling sad and angry that her daughters weren't identified earlier, compounded by medical advice not to compare their growth due to prematurity.
Reflecting on the current situation, Jesy said, 'I am taking each day as it comes... If I try to look too far into the future, I will drive myself crazy. The girls are doing really well and they're happy, that's all I can really ask for.'
